Young Shanta witnessed the Lumière brothers’ film screening in Bombay in 1896 aged 15, followed them to France to learn the art himself, then travelled the world with a movie camera, working in every continent, and pioneering innovations in the moving image that influence cinema to this day.

A truly global family company with a footprint on every continent, Movieplex continues the legacy of our founder, Shanta Rao Dutt. To this day, more than a century later, his descendants continue to pursue innovation in the field of the moving image, whilst keeping alive the memory of this extraordinary man and his life and work.
