The Movieplex Emporium

Movieplex Emporium

Founded in 1975 by Raamdas Dutt, Shanta Rao Dutt’s Fijian nephew, the Movieplex Emporium was a pioneer in its chosen field with its flagship Tottenham Court Road store, which was the first in Western Europe to sell the paradigm-shifting VHS players.  The Emporium quickly cemented its position as predominant market leader by offering customers seamless electronic equipment solutions during the VHS revolution in the 1970s and 80s.

Following a strategic realignment, the Movieplex Emporium recalibrated its strategic focus in 1987, the year of Shanta Rao Dutt’s death, and closed its doors.  The Movieplex company reassessed its core mission and unveiled an exciting growth strategy, positioning itself to provide global integrated solutions to international public and private partnerships and government-to-government tenders.

The Movieplex Emporium itself was demolished and replaced by a ‘Subway’ outlet .
