Kumari Beauty

Kumari Beauty - Bollywood's best kept secret

Founded by Shanta Rao Dutt’s daughter-in-law Girja Dutt, nee Kumari, in 1955, the Kumari ayurvedic beauty range draws from ancient traditions of Indian medicine to cater to the beauty needs of modern day Asian women.  The daughter of a Bengali Maharaja, Girja’s pride in Indian tradition led her to seek beauty solutions for herself and her friends from within her own cultural heritage, rather than choosing imported Western beauty products not designed for Asian skin.  So popular were her beauty treatments that in 1955 she opened a health spa in Mumbai, catering to the stars of Indian Cinema’s golden age.  “Bollywood’s Best Kept Secret”, as her products were dubbed, soon came to the ears of the West, and in 1967, increasing American interest in ayurvedic medicine led to the opening of the first Kumari spa in Hollywood.

Kumari’s founder Girja Dutt has long held the dream of making Kumari beauty products available outside her own spas to Asian women everywhere, and that wish is shortly to come true.  The Dutt family look forward to making an announcement in the near future about international stockists of the Kumari Beauty Range.
